Barchester Hall Park Care Home, Nottingham

Barchester Hall Park Care Home is a 62-bed residence in Nottingham, caring for adults aged over 65, some with dementia. The home underwent a large-scale refurbishment in both residential and shared areas while remaining fully operational to residents and visitors.

Works included new carpets in 26 resident bedrooms, as well as refurbishing 2 assisted bathrooms and shower rooms, reception and admin offices, 3 lounge rooms, 3 dining rooms, resident and visitor toilets, sluices, storerooms and communal corridors.

Due to the sensitive nature of the project, the noise and disruption associated with the flooring works had the potential to create stress and anxiety amongst residents, requiring our utmost empathy and careful planning.

Working closely with the main contractor, Fortis Vision, and care home staff, we devised a tailored works schedule to minimise disruption to the resident’s usual routines.

Work began after 9am, and our team worked efficiently, yet meticulously, to uplift the existing flooring, prep, and install new flooring in the bedrooms within a strict six-hour turnaround. Once work was complete, rooms were carefully restored to their original setup to provide a sense of familiarity, and safe to occupy checks were carried out before residents returned to their rooms that same evening. Whilst working in communal areas, our floor layers communicated sensitively with the residents, taking time out to explain the works being carried out and likely timelines, helping to reduce further worry.

A combination of Forbo Surestep vinyl, Altro Fog vinyl, and Danfloor Equinox carpet was used throughout the project, chosen for their durability, safety, and ease of maintenance.

The project was completed successfully, improving the care home’s environment while ensuring the residents’ wellbeing was prioritised throughout.
