    Travelodge Gatwick Airport, London

Travelodge Gatwick Airport is a busy 400-room hotel offering convenient, round-the-clock accommodation for travellers arriving at or departing from Gatwick Airport.

As part of a full strip-out and refurbishment project on behalf of Fortis Vision and IH Group, flooring works were carried out across the large main reception and bar/café area, as well as in more than 250 bedrooms and bathrooms.

Across the reception and 85 Bar/Café, our team installed over 500 m² of Karndean Van Gogh in a straight-lay design, with a further 700 m² laid in herringbone and bespoke patterns to create distinctive zones within the large open space. The combination of designs not only helped to define different areas of use but also added visual impact in line with Travelodge’s Budget-Luxe design concept.

The hotel’s constant flow of guests presented significant challenges throughout the project. As an airport hotel operating 24 hours, the team had to adapt the programme of works daily — and sometimes even hourly — to minimise disruption to guests and staff. Close coordination with Travelodge staff and site management ensured that progress remained efficient without impacting hotel operations.

Products used on this project included Karndean Van Gogh luxury vinyl tiles, Karndean Kaleidoscope vinyl tiles, and Altro Classic sheet vinyl — all selected for their durability, slip resistance, and suitability for a high-traffic hospitality environment.

The result is another attractive yet highly functional refurbishment for Travelodge, delivered on time and within budget, with minimal disruption to guests.

  • Alora Restaurant, Nottingham

    Alora Restaurant, Nottingham

Alora is a new tapas and small plates restaurant in Nottingham, housed in a converted old bank building.

The redevelopment included flooring works to the front of house restaurant, toilets, and back of house bar and kitchen areas, working on an extended long-term programme due to delays with building works.

Design played a key role in the concept for this project. Alora needed a flooring solution that would reflect its unique character and vibrant cuisine. The goal was to create a stylish, inviting social space for dining.

To achieve this, Amtico luxury vinyl tile was laid in an innovative, modern block pattern throughout, adding a contemporary edge to the building’s historic architecture. In the snug, the Axminster carpet, with its heavily patterned design, provided warmth and visual impact, enhancing the restaurant’s atmosphere and aligning with its eclectic menu. In the back of house areas, IVC Isafe 70 vinyl provided much-needed safety and durability.

The final result was a dynamic and visually engaging interior that blended modern style with traditional charm, offering customers an exceptional all-round dining experience. The flooring supported the restaurant’s vision for design, but also delivered durability and functionality for a high-traffic environment, setting the stage for a successful launch.

  • Travelodge Kings Cross Royal Scot, London

Travelodge Kings Cross Royal Scot, London

The Kings Cross Royal Scot is one of Travelodge’s biggest hotels.

The 408-bed hotel was one of several London hotels selected for Travelodge’s ‘Budget-Luxe’ refurbishment programme, aimed at providing room upgrades based on a chic hotel experience.

Working closely with contractors, Fortis Vision and IH Group, the work included the refurbishment of all 408 bathrooms, as well as 480m2 of communal spaces including the main reception, lift lobbies, and bar café.

Given the building’s age and complex structure, extensive preparation of the subfloors was a priority on this project. We used several F.Ball floor preparation products to correct a mixture of levels within the subfloor, and ensure a stable base before installing the new flooring.

In line with their new 85 Bar/Café design concept, Travelodge wanted a timeless, classic flooring solution for their reception lobby, partnered with a stylish, statement bar café area that guests could relax, drink and dine in. A combination of Karndean Van Gogh luxury vinyl tile, bespoke Karndean Kaleidoscope vinyl tile, and bespoke Amtico Aspekt vinyl tile was used throughout, with several areas featuring intricately laid designs to elevate the aesthetic. Altro classic vinyl featured behind the counters and in the toilets, providing a durable, non-slip surface.

As with any in-occupation project, precise planning was key in ensuring minimal disruption to hotel staff and guests. We worked collaboratively with Travelodge staff to ensure rooms were only taken offline when absolutely necessary, whilst public access areas were worked on out-of-hours and during periods of lower footfall.

As a result, the Kings Cross Royal Scott has benefited from a full upgrade, whilst still offering a seamless guest experience.
