Unite Students Station Court is a purpose-built student accommodation building, housing over 200 students in North London.
Working alongside refurbishment contractors Fortis Vision, the £5.7m total refurbishment project was commissioned to help Unite Students realise its aim of becoming net zero carbon across its operations by 2030. Work included the refurbishment of over 220 bedrooms, kitchens and corridors, as well as the upgrade of several social spaces including a common room, games lounge, fitness studio, karaoke room and cinema.
The project presented a unique challenge as the building remained occupied throughout the work.
To minimise disruption to students, living areas were grouped into clusters, each comprising a kitchen and five bedrooms. Our team worked efficiently, yet meticulously, to uplift the existing flooring, prep, and install new flooring within a new cluster every 48 hours, until all 45 clusters were complete. Our close working relationship with Fortis Vision and the team at Unite Students enabled us to work seamlessly and keep the programme on schedule at all times.
In line with Unite Students’ commitment to net zero, a range of high-quality, sustainable yet durable flooring solutions were chosen to meet the specific needs of each space, including Forbo Sarlon and Surestep vinyl, Forbo Allura luxury vinyl tile, Forbo Coral Duo entrance matting, and bespoke carpets supplied by Wilton Carpets.
Despite the complexities of working in an occupied building, the project was completed smoothly and on time. Precise planning and an efficient workforce meant there was minimised disruption to students, and our commitment to safe working practices ensured staff, residents and visitors were safe whilst we worked in communal areas.
The overall living environment at Station Court has been enhanced and students can enjoy modern, durable, visually appealing spaces to study and socialise in.
